Abbreviations Used in the Field Names in the Bluebook Files

The 14 Field Names. There are 14 fields used in creation of the bluebook.txt file, and all derivative files posted on this website. Following is a description of the meaning of each abbreviation, and the information contained in the corresponding field.

lno - This is the Lodge Number assigned to the Order of the Arrow Lodge by National.

N - This indicates which lodge name was used when a badge was issued. For example, Lodge 61 has used both the name Shaginappi and the name Awase. An "A" in this field indicates that Shaginappi issued the badge, while a "B" would indicate an issue from Awase.

pno - Indicates the chronological order of issue of the badge as compared to all patches issues by the Lodge. Note that decimals are used to interlineate issues or varieties.

T - The type of badge, "X" for odd shaped, "R" for round, "F" for twill background flap, "S" for solid embroidered flap, etc., is here indicated.

tn - This indicates the numerical issue of the badge compared to all patches of this particular type issued by the Lodge. For example, S1, S2, S3, etc.

v - If a major issue has a variety, the variety is identified by an "a", "b", "c", etc. The comments field will describe the criteria to identify the variety. MVE in the comments field means many varieties exist which are too numerous or trivial to describe.

bkg - The predominant background color of the badge is here noted. "M/C" means multicolored.

E - This indicates the type of border or edge of the badge: "C" is a cut edge, "R" is a merrowed or rolled edge, "P" is piping on a neckerchief.

bdr - The predominant color of the border or edge of the badge is here noted. "M/C" means multicolored.

ltrs - The predominant color of the name of the Lodge if indicated on the badge is here noted.

fdl - The predominant color of the FDL or BSA if indicated on the badge is here noted.

pcomment - This is the field for comments regarding the badge which aid in identification or providing other information of interest concerning the badge.

pid - Each badge is given a unique identifying record number to aid in creation of a computer database. This will assist in future updates of The Blue Book, by allowing for sorts and other functions within applications.

pdate - The date that a badge is added to the master database file of The Blue Book is noted for each record. This will assist in future updates of The Blue Book, by allowing for sorts and other functions within applications.
